"Architecture is bound to situation. And I feel like the site is a metaphysical link, a poetic link, to what a building can be."

Experiencing Place : Site Analysis + Concept Development
GROUP
TASK 1 - HISTORICAL RESEARCH / TRACINGS OF MACRO SITE
TASK 2 - SITE CONDITIONS & DATA COLLECTION OF MACRO & MICRO SITES
TASK 3 - SITE ANALYSIS OF MACRO & MICRO SITES
INDIVIDUAL
TASK 4 - PERSONAL INTERPRETATION
TASK 5 - SITE RESPONSE & CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
In a group of 13 people, we conducted a historical research on the site of Kampung Baru Machap Baru, Melaka to find the genius loci, or spirit of the place. We compiled images, photographs, and video clips of particular significant events, people, and developments in the past. The essence of the site are presented in video format with a curated 'theme'. After that, we collected and recorded data on the details of the site such as orientation and climate. The data is then analyzed.
Group Research

Process
Individually, we are to produce our personal interpretation of the macro site in the form of sketches. Gordon Cullen’s serial vision is used as a reference. The personal interpretation (including present site issues) will inform the design concept for the Memory Repository (Final Project 2b).
Concept : Reigniting the Heart of Machap
