Project 2
Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality

For this group project, we were assigned to study an architect and one of his key works and then produce a set of scaled architectural drawings. Next, we are to analyse the key building through the drawings and then translate the information into a set of 5 analysis diagrams and 5 diagrammatic models (8 x 8 x 8 cm).
The following are the criteria that we had to focus on:
-
CONCEPT
-
STRUCTURE – grid, rhythm
-
CONTEXT
-
SPACE PLANNING (organization & relationship) - centralized, interlocking
-
CIRCULATION – spiral, linear, radial
Assigned Architect: ARCHWERK + Formafatal
Assigned Building: COCO Art Villas, Costa Rica

Reflection
Project-wise, I was in charge of drawing the door details and sketching out the foundation construction. Compared to the others, I felt like my workload is lighter and I am just grateful for that. When I look at my teammates from interior architecture, who were doing the hard work of producing construction drawings without prior experience, I cannot help but wonder if I would have the same drive and patience as they had. (Flashback to the Intro to Drawing module in FNBE)
Honestly, I was a bit worried when I heard stories from seniors who had to deal with bad 'rider' teammates and were forced to carry a much heavier workload because of that. Thankfully, I got great teammates who not only did their part of the work but were also active in group meetings. There was really good cooperation and teamwork the whole time and if this project was longer, I am sure I could learn more from them.
