Project 1c
Architecture for Place-Making

The aim of this final lap is to develop an architectural narration for place making in the city and to perform an integrated design. From Interim I, the architectural strategy should be resolved for form, activity and circulation, through technical integration.

Form + Space + Facade

â–ª Positive outdoor space (site layout)

â–ª Animating the edge (Façade design)

â–ª Building size and scale (sections)

â–ª Building for change (space planning/function)

â–ª A thriving public realm (connection to the street)

Apart from developing a narrative on architectural strategy in response to the relevant questions pertaining to community and its context, the design should take into consideration a holistic application of structural, spatial, technical, environmental, services, and legislative requirements to address the user needs for an urban Community Centre. The outcome is also integrated with the Module on Building Services.

Reflection

This project has been such an interesting first step into urban design. It gave me a glimpse on how much work it takes to build and design in a dense urban environment. Not to mention, this project is where boundaries and compliance with building standards are taken into account more seriously than before.

In terms of urban theories and their narratives, The reading materials cover so many depths and knowing that those were just scrapping the surface blows my mind away. So many new things to discover and explore.

This project has opened my eyes to a whole new world of design, the beauty of urban design. Who knows, I might just become an urban design architect one day.

Shoutout to Ar. Patma, my tutor, who has been such a great help to me. Thank you for listening to my ideas, supporting them and even adding so much more value and new knowledge to them. I appreciate you and am very grateful to have you as my tutor in this semester.
